About this blog
I’m bored, so I thought I’d shove up a new blog, specialising in two things that are great – booze, and fights. What I’ll do here is comment on recent beers I’ve drunk and recent fights I’ve watched, be that real ale, lager, cider, or MMA, boxing, or even pro wrestling if I’m that way inclined. This is intentionally unelitist, I’ll talk anything regardless of quality etc, there’s many ale bores that wouldn’t touch a drop of lager and dismiss it all out of hand, which is obvious bollocks, unless they’ve only ever drunk Carling, in which case all lager they’ve had actually is crap. Similarly, although MMA is actually the greatest thing to ever grace the earth, I’ll not rubbish boxing despite the fact that it’s rigged, barely has any fights worth watching due to trillions of promoters and different sanctioning bodies, now and then you’ll see a good fight. You’ll see crap as well, and I’ll talk about it all.
Probably best to start off with some general housekeeping and list some lists – first some beers that I’ve historically thought are good just for the record. Probably the best regular beer I’ve had is Everard’s Tiger, you really can’t go wrong with that. Not too weak or strong, nice flavour, perfect session beer. Milds are good, most of the very best beers I’ve had are mild, some decent examples are Sarah Hughes’ Dark Ruby (stupidly strong for a mild but great), Kelham Island Ruby and Dunham Massey Choc Cherry (mixing in fruit flavours can rarely go wrong). For bottled beer, Wells’ Banana Bread has got to be up there with the best. Lagers? Most weak lager is pretty bad, the only thing that’s somewhat drinkable that isn’t up and over 5% is probably Beck’s Vier, but anything continental is ok, the new Heineken is excellent, possibly the best I’ve had is Yuengling but as far as I know that’s only available in certain areas of the States.
On the fight side, some favourites include Anderson Silva, Tyson Griffin, Rampage Jackson, Masakazu Imanari, Yushin Okami, David Haye, Ricky Hatton and Hardcore Holly. Best dropkick in the business.
Some beers from today to kick things off:
1 – Marston’s Tank Bomber (3.9%) – 6, somewhat bland, initial bitter taste that goes away quickly, probably a decent session beer but really nothing special.
2 – Abbeydale Prophecy (4.5%) – 7, bit better, bit stronger, somewhat of a fuller taste than their Moonshine but not as good as the Absolution. A decent offering.
