Four new beers, Strikeforce LW title

Went to pub quiz last night. Was moderately tough, nowhere near anything, but it allows for more beer which is all good.

10 – Beck’s Vier (4.0%) – 7.5, one of the best lower strength lagers you can get imo, it lacks something compared to its stronger namesake, but still very drinkable. Only criticism I have is that it’s a bit hit and miss dependent on some factors which can render it a lot poorer than usual, otherwise I’d probably rate it eight, as in good but lacking in things that generally only stronger beers supply

11 – JW Lees Greengate Smooth (3.9%) – 6, bland, nothing special, ok session beer but I wouldn’t normally drink it. Certainly not as good as some of their other brews

12 – Wentworth Camberwell Beauty (4.0%) – 6.5, initially somewhat sour, possible hints of ginger, got better as the pint went on

13 – Guinness (4.1%) – 8, it’s Guinness, you don’t need a description

Also took the opportunity earlier to watch the Strikeforce main event from Friday which saw Gilbert Melendez defend his lightweight title against Josh Thomson. I haven’t seen too much of either fighter, being in the UK limits somewhat the amount of MMA you’re able to see beyond the UFC and whatever you can find on youtube or streams. Was pleasantly surprised to see the underdog take the fight with little resistance, seeming to have a clear advantage in the striking game, particularly with the use of kicks and knees along with punches in one of the better demonstrations since the Jardine-Liddell fight, and then having the gas tank to be able to shoot for takedowns and even go for submissions in the fourth, looking for but failing to get a choke after getting Melendez’ back rather easily. Well worth a watch and I might look to source some of the undercard as well soon.
